Canine Influenza

CANINE INFLUENZA:

Canine Influenza (H3N2 virus) has recently reached King County.  At the time of this writing, the virus has yet to reach Thurston County.  The influenza virus can be more difficult to contract than kennel cough, but can cause similar symptoms, such as coughing, gagging, lethargy, and wheezing.  We do offer the vaccine to help protect our patients at risk.  We recommend the influenza vaccine for dogs that have a higher risk of exposure.   This can include dogs that might be visiting dog parks frequently, are kennel end, go to doggy daycare, show dogs, service dogs, and dogs that travel.   Some elderly pets and immune-compromised pets might also benefit from this vaccine.  Please feel free to contact your veterinarian to determine if your pet is at risk.  We encourage our clients to learn more information by visiting the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) links (listed below):
